Suspension Lift vs. Body Lift — Which Is Right?

Godspeed installs suspension lifts exclusively. Here’s why: a suspension lift raises the entire vehicle — frame, axles, and body — which increases real ground clearance, improves off-road capability, and allows for larger tires with proper suspension geometry.

A body lift only raises the body off the frame with spacers. It’s cheaper, but it doesn’t improve ground clearance, doesn’t add suspension travel, and creates visible gaps between the body and frame. For a vehicle you’re investing thousands into, a suspension lift is the only option that delivers real capability.

If you’re on a tight budget, a 2.5-inch suspension lift gives you meaningful improvement without the compromises of a body lift.

What a Suspension Lift Includes

A quality suspension lift kit isn’t just springs. Depending on lift height, a proper installation includes some or all of:

  • New coil springs or coilovers
  • Upgraded shock absorbers (Fox, Bilstein, King)
  • Adjustable upper and lower control arms
  • Extended brake lines
  • Adjustable track bar
  • Bump stop extensions
  • Sway bar links / disconnects
  • Professional alignment

Lift Kits by Vehicle

Jeep Wrangler (JL/JK/TJ)

The Wrangler is our most-installed platform. We know every generation inside out — from a basic JK spacer lift to a JL long-arm competition setup. Most popular: 3-inch TeraFlex or Metalcloak with 35-inch tires.

Ford Bronco

The Bronco aftermarket is booming. We install 2-inch to 3-inch lifts on both 2-door and 4-door Broncos. The Sasquatch package bikes get different treatment than base suspension models — we know the differences.

Toyota 4Runner & Tacoma

Icon, King, and Bilstein are the go-to brands for Toyota IFS platforms. We install coilover lifts that maintain factory ride quality while adding clearance for 33-inch or 285/70R17 tires.

Lift Kit FAQ

How much does a Jeep lift kit cost in Sarasota?

At Godspeed Off-Road, lift kit installations range from $2,800 to $12,000+ depending on lift height and components. A 2.5-inch entry lift runs $2,800–$3,500. A 3.5-inch kit with Fox shocks runs $4,200–$5,800. Long-arm kits start at $7,500. All installations include alignment.

Is a suspension lift better than a body lift?

Yes. A suspension lift raises the entire vehicle — frame, axles, and body — increasing real ground clearance and off-road capability. A body lift only raises the body off the frame, adding no clearance and no suspension travel. We only install suspension lifts.

What size tires fit a 2.5-inch lift?

A 2.5-inch lift on a Jeep Wrangler comfortably fits 33-inch tires without rubbing. Some owners run 35s with minor fender trimming, but for a clean fit, 33s are the max at 2.5 inches. For 35s without rubbing, we recommend 3 inches or more.

Do I need an alignment after a lift kit?

Yes — always. Any lift changes your suspension geometry enough to affect tire wear and handling. We include alignment with every lift kit installation at no extra charge.

Do lift kits void my warranty?

Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer cannot void your warranty simply because you installed a lift kit. They can only deny a specific claim if they prove the aftermarket part directly caused that failure. Quality components installed correctly minimize this risk.

How long does a lift kit take to install?

A standard 2.5-to-3-inch lift takes 4–6 hours. A 3.5-inch kit with new shocks and control arms takes 6–8 hours. Long-arm kits can take 10–14 hours across 1–2 days. Most standard lifts are same-day — drop off in the morning, pick up by end of day.

Can I install a lift kit myself?

We recommend professional installation. A lift changes suspension geometry, brake line routing, steering, and driveshaft angles. Incorrect installation leads to premature wear, handling problems, or unsafe conditions. Professional installation ensures proper torque, alignment, and a test drive to verify everything.
