Ford F-150 Lighting Upgrades — See Everything, Be Seen Everywhere

Factory headlights on most F-150s are adequate for highway driving. They’re not adequate for a dark trail at midnight, a pre-dawn ranch road, or the kind of visibility you need when you’re running through Florida backcountry with no streetlights for miles. Aftermarket lighting transforms your F-150 from a truck that drives carefully after dark into one that owns the night.

At Godspeed Off-Road, we design and install complete lighting systems — from single pod lights tucked into your bumper to full roof-mounted arrays that turn night into day. Every installation is wired properly with relays, inline fuses, weatherproof switches, and clean routing that you’ll never see unless you look for it. No zip-tied wires hanging under your dash. No spliced factory harnesses. No shortcuts.

LED Light Bars

A quality LED light bar is the single most impactful lighting upgrade you can make. Modern LED bars put out thousands of lumens from a slim, aerodynamic housing that mounts to your roof rack, bumper, or grille surround.

Baja Designs OnX6+: Our premium recommendation. The OnX6+ is a hybrid spot/driving beam pattern that produces an incredible 24,500 lumens from a 40-inch bar. Baja Designs uses a proprietary lens that throws light farther than any competitor we’ve tested — you’ll see trail obstacles hundreds of feet ahead. Available in 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50-inch lengths. These are the lights that Baja 1000 race teams run. Lifetime warranty.

Rigid Industries Radiance: Popular for builds where aesthetics matter as much as output. The Radiance series features a backlit housing available in amber, blue, red, green, or white — a distinctive look that’s immediately recognizable. Output isn’t quite at Baja Designs levels, but it’s more than sufficient for trail use and overlanding. Rigid backs everything with a lifetime warranty.

KC HiLiTES Gravity Pro6: A modular system where each light pod snaps into a rail — you can configure your bar length and beam pattern exactly how you want it. Great for F-150 owners who want to start with a few pods and expand later. The individual pods are also excellent standalone trail lights mounted to A-pillars or bumpers.

Auxiliary Pod Lights

Pod lights are the most versatile lighting upgrade for your F-150. They’re compact, powerful, and can be mounted virtually anywhere — bumper corners, A-pillars, roof rack rails, mirror brackets, bed rails, and tailgate.

Baja Designs Squadron Pro: Our go-to pod light. 4,900 lumens from a 3-inch housing with multiple beam patterns available — driving, spot, flood, and wide cornering. We typically install driving beams in the bumper and wide cornering beams on the A-pillars for the ultimate trail lighting setup. These are also popular as ditch lights flanking the hood.

Rigid D-Series (Dually): The industry standard for pod lights. 2,880 lumens per pod, available in flush-mount and surface-mount configurations. The flush-mount version integrates cleanly into aftermarket bumpers that have pre-cut Rigid D-Series provisions — and most do.

Diode Dynamics SS3: Excellent value with surprising output. The SS3 Max produces 5,040 lumens per pod — competitive with Baja Designs at a lower price point. They’re also available with a selective yellow lens for fog and dust penetration, which is popular for Florida rainy season driving.

Headlight Upgrades

If you’re not ready for a full auxiliary lighting system, upgrading your F-150’s headlights is a meaningful improvement. Options range from LED bulb swaps (replacing your factory halogen or HID bulbs with LED equivalents) to complete headlight assembly replacements with integrated DRLs and sequential turn signals.

Morimoto XB LED headlights: The best complete replacement headlight for the F-150. These assemblies use a projector-style LED module that produces a sharp, well-defined beam pattern — significantly better than any bulb-swap solution. They’re DOT-compliant and include integrated LED DRLs and sequential amber turn signals. Available for 2015-2020 and 2021+ F-150 generations.

For older F-150s (2009-2014), we recommend the AlphaRex Pro Series headlights — similar projector-style LED output with a modern aesthetic that updates the front end look considerably.

Wiring and Switching

How your lights are wired matters as much as the lights themselves. We use the sPOD BantamX switching system for most F-150 lighting builds — it’s a Bluetooth-controlled power distribution module that replaces the mess of toggle switches, relays, and fuse taps that most lighting installations rely on. You control all your auxiliary lights from your phone, and every circuit is individually fused and monitored. Clean, reliable, and expandable if you add more lights later.

For simpler installations (one light bar or a pair of pods), we wire through a quality relay harness with a weatherproof dash-mounted switch. Every connection is soldered and heat-shrunk — no crimp connectors, no electrical tape.

Lighting upgrades pair naturally with bumper and armor upgrades — most aftermarket bumpers include pre-cut mounting provisions for light bars and pod lights. Many of our custom build customers include a full lighting package as part of their build spec.
