RAM 1500 Wheels & Tires — Properly Fitted, Properly Built
A wheel and tire upgrade is where your RAM 1500 build becomes real. The right combination gives your truck an aggressive, purpose-built stance that turns heads on Clark Road and performs on the trail. The wrong combination gives you rubbing, vibration, uneven wear, and a headache you didn’t sign up for. Fitment on the RAM 1500 has specific requirements that not every shop understands — we do.
At Godspeed Off-Road, every RAM 1500 wheel and tire package starts with your truck’s specs: year, trim, lift height, and intended use. We spec the correct bolt pattern, offset, backspacing, and load rating for your specific setup. Every package includes professional mounting, balancing, TPMS sensor transfer, and verification that your tires clear at full steering lock and full suspension compression.
RAM 1500 Bolt Pattern and Fitment Specs
The RAM 1500 uses a 5×139.7mm (5×5.5″) bolt pattern — shared with older Jeeps, Dodge Dakotas, and several other Chrysler platforms. This is a different pattern from Ford (6×135) and GM (6×139.7), so make sure any wheels you’re considering are specifically built for 5×5.5″.
Hub bore: 77.8mm on most RAM 1500s. Hub-centric wheels (where the center bore matches your hub exactly) are always preferred over hub-centric rings — they center the wheel precisely and eliminate potential vibration at highway speeds.
Wheel sizing: Factory RAM 1500 wheels range from 17″ to 22″ depending on year and trim. For off-road builds, we recommend 17-inch wheels. The reason is simple: a 17-inch wheel paired with a 35-inch tire gives you about 7.5 inches of sidewall — that’s a thick cushion of rubber between trail obstacles and your expensive wheel. An 18-inch wheel works well for trucks that split time between pavement and light trails. We don’t recommend going smaller than 17″ (brake caliper clearance) or larger than 18″ (sidewall too thin for off-road).
Width and offset: Most aftermarket off-road wheels for the RAM 1500 come in 9-inch or 10-inch widths. Offset typically ranges from 0mm to -24mm. A moderate negative offset (-12 to -18mm) pushes the wheel face slightly outward for a wider stance without requiring fender trimming on most lift heights. Go more aggressive than -24mm and you’ll likely need fender flares, and you’ll be throwing road debris onto your paint. We’ll help you find the sweet spot for your specific truck.
Tire Sizing for Lifted RAM 1500s
33-inch tires (285/70R17): Perfect for a leveled or 2-inch lifted RAM. 33s fill the wheel wells nicely, provide a noticeable improvement in ground clearance and off-road traction, and don’t require re-gearing on most configurations. This is the low-commitment entry point for a RAM 1500 build — big visual impact, no supporting modifications needed. Our top picks: BFGoodrich KO2 (the all-terrain standard), Toyo Open Country AT3 (quiet highway manners with genuine off-road grip), and the Nitto Ridge Grappler (hybrid terrain with an aggressive look). See our 33-inch tire guide.
35-inch tires (315/70R17 or 35×12.50R17): The sweet spot for RAM 1500 builds with 3.5 to 4-inch lifts. At this size, your RAM looks serious and drives like a capable off-road machine. You’ll want to re-gear to 4.88 for proper drivability, especially if you have the 3.21 factory ratio. Top picks for 35s: BFGoodrich KM3 (best-in-class mud terrain), Falken Wildpeak MT01 (aggressive tread with reasonable road noise), and Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT (all-terrain with a mud-terrain attitude). Compare 33 vs 35-inch tires.
37-inch tires (37×12.50R17): For 6-inch lifts and full show or trail builds. 37s require 5.13 gears, potentially longer CV axles, and some trimming depending on your wheel offset and control arm geometry. The payoff is a RAM 1500 that commands the road and has legitimate rock-crawling clearance. These are statement builds, and we’ll make sure every supporting modification is in place before we mount 37s.
Wheel Brands We Recommend for RAM 1500
Method Race Wheels: Our top pick. Method’s NV series and Standard series are purpose-built for off-road performance. High load ratings, forged construction options, and a proven track record in desert racing. The Method MR305 NV in matte black is our most-requested RAM 1500 wheel.
Fuel Off-Road: Wide variety of styles from clean and simple to bold and aggressive. The Fuel Rebel D680 and Fuel Shok D664 are popular RAM 1500 fitments that balance off-road capability with street presence.
Icon Alloys: Excellent bang-for-the-buck wheels engineered specifically for off-road trucks. The Icon Rebound and Compression series offer serious load ratings and clean designs at a competitive price point.
KMC Wheels: Strong mid-range option. The KMC Bully (KM541) is a timeless six-spoke design that looks great on RAM 1500s with or without a lift.
Installation and Service
Every wheel and tire package we install includes full dynamic balancing, TPMS sensor transfer and programming, torque-to-spec lug nuts, and a post-install test drive. If your RAM is getting a lift kit at the same time, we coordinate both jobs so your truck goes up on the lift once and comes down complete — saving you time and a second alignment.
