Phase 2 — Engineering. Once we know the direction, we spec every component as a system. The lift height determines the tire size. The tire size determines the gear ratio. The Trail Machine Build — Designed for Silverados that actually leave pavement. A 4–6 inch suspension lift, 35-inch mud-terrain or all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, Fox or King remote reservoir shocks, aftermarket upper control arms, front and rear steel bumpers with a winch, full underbody skid plate kit, and rock sliders. 4.88 gears make the drivetrain right. Add auxiliary LED lighting and a dual-battery system for self-sufficiency. The 5.3L V8 is the workhorse — proven reliable, adequate power, and the most common engine in the Silverado fleet. It benefits enormously from proper regearing after bigger tires and responds well to an exhaust upgrade for better breathing and sound.
The 6.2L V8 brings serious power — 420 HP and 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine makes a lifted Silverado genuinely fast and fun to drive. With proper gearing and 35-inch tires, the 6.2L delivers a driving experience that’s hard to match in the full-size truck segment.
The 3.0L Duramax diesel is the fuel economy and torque champion. Its 460 lb-ft of torque makes it effortless off-road and while towing. Diesel Silverado builds are popular with owners who put on serious miles — the fuel savings over a gas V8 compound over time.
