Toyota Tacoma Lift Kits & Off-Road Builds — Sarasota, FL

There’s a reason the Tacoma holds its resale value better than almost any truck on the market — Toyota built a platform that’s proven itself over decades of abuse, and the aftermarket knows it. The third-gen Tacoma (2016–2023) became the overlanding community’s truck of choice, and the fourth-gen (2024+) raised the bar with a 2.4L turbo, updated suspension, and an available i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. Whether you’re running a TRD Off-Road through the trails at Croom or building out a long-travel Tacoma for cross-country overlanding, Godspeed Off-Road in Sarasota has the experience and the parts knowledge to make it happen.

Tacoma Lift Kits

The Tacoma’s independent front suspension with upper and lower control arms paired with a leaf-sprung solid rear axle (3rd gen) or multilink rear (4th gen) requires a lift approach completely different from a solid-axle Jeep. Up front, you’re managing strut length, CV angle, and differential clearance. Out back on a 3rd-gen, you’re adding leaf packs or replacing them entirely. We install kits from Bilstein — typically 2 to 3 inches — that maintain proper geometry and don’t introduce the nose dive and body roll that cheap spacer lifts are known for on this platform.

Leveling Kits

Tacomas come from the factory with significant front-to-rear rake, and a leveling kit is the single most common modification we install. A quality strut spacer or adjustable coilover in the 2- to 2.5-inch range levels the stance and makes room for 33-inch tires without touching the rear suspension. On TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro models with upgraded factory shocks, we use spacers designed specifically to work with those components so you keep the suspension tuning Toyota invested in.

2.5 – 3 Inch Suspension Lift

This range unlocks 33- to 34-inch tires and genuine off-road clearance. Full coilover kits from Bilstein replace the factory struts with adjustable units that let us dial in ride height and damping. Aftermarket upper control arms from SPC or Total Chaos are recommended at this height to correct ball joint angles and unlock full suspension travel.

Your Tacoma

The 3rd-gen Tacoma’s 3.5L V6 with factory 3.91 gears does a decent job with stock tires, but once you step up to 33s or larger, the six-speed automatic starts hunting and fuel economy drops.

35-inch tires: The transmission stops hunting and acceleration returns to a level that actually feels better than stock on smaller tires.

37-inch tires:

Wheels, Tires & Suspension Upgrades

The Tacoma runs a 6×5.5 bolt pattern across all model years, giving access to one of the deepest wheel selections in the off-road market. SCS Ray 10, Method 703, and Relations Race Wheels are among the most popular on Tacomas. Tire-wise, 285/70R17 (33 inches) is the magic number on 3rd-gen Tacomas — you can run them with a leveling kit and minimal trimming. Going to 34s or 35s requires a true lift and usually minor body mount chopping.

Upper control arm upgrades are essential on lifted Tacomas to correct ball joint angles and unlock full suspension travel.

Overlanding & Custom Fabrication

Tacoma overlanding builds are some of the most creative projects we see at the shop. Custom bed rack systems that integrate with rooftop tents and awnings, modular drawer systems for the bed, under-seat storage solutions, custom exhaust routing for improved ground clearance — every build is different because every owner uses their truck differently. We’ve built Tacomas set up for week-long beach camping on the Gulf Coast and Tacomas built for technical trail running in North Florida.

Bumper upgrades are essential for Tacomas that leave pavement. We install steel and aluminum bumpers from C4 Fabrication, Coastal Offroad, CBI, and Southern Style Offroad — names the Tacoma community trusts. Full-plate skid plates protecting the oil pan, transmission, and transfer case are practically required. Rock sliders with weld-on or bolt-on mounting protect the Tacoma’s thin pinch welds from rock strikes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Toyota Tacoma lift kit cost?

Every lift is quoted to your truck. The investment depends on lift height, the springs, shocks and control arms your build needs, and your wheel and tire package. Call (941) 706-0071 for a free estimate. We present tiered options so you can match the investment to your goals.

What size tires fit a Tacoma with a 3-inch lift?

285/70R17 (33-inch) tires fit cleanly with minimal trimming. 285/75R17 (34-inch) requires fender liner trimming. 35s at 3 inches need body mount chop and more aggressive modification. We test-fit every setup before committing.

What is the best lift kit brand for the Tacoma?

The right choice depends on your intended use and budget.

Can you build a Tacoma for overlanding?

The Tacoma is one of the most popular overlanding platforms in the country. We build them with bed racks, rooftop tents, modular storage, dual-battery systems, onboard air, and long-travel suspension. Toyota’s reliability makes the Tacoma ideal for extended remote travel.
