F-150 Bolt Pattern and Fitment Specs
Every 2004+ Ford F-150 runs a 6x135mm bolt pattern — a Ford-specific pattern that’s different from the 6×139.7 (6×5.5″) used by GM and Toyota. This matters when you’re shopping for wheels: make sure you’re looking at 6×135 specifically. Hub bore is 87.1mm on most years.
Wheel sizing: Factory F-150 wheels range from 17″ to 22″ depending on trim. For off-road builds, we typically recommend 17-inch wheels — they allow for taller sidewalls on your tires, which means better off-road cushion, more puncture resistance, and a smoother ride on rough terrain. An 18-inch wheel works well for a street-oriented build that still wants a rugged look. We rarely recommend going below 17″ or above 18″ for a lifted F-150.
Wheel width and offset: This is where fitment gets critical. Most aftermarket off-road wheels for the F-150 come in 9-inch or 10-inch widths with offsets ranging from -12mm to -24mm. A more negative offset pushes the wheel outward for a wider stance, but go too aggressive and you’ll need fender trimming, throw mud on your paint, and put extra stress on wheel bearings. We recommend staying in the -12 to -18 range for a clean look with no trimming required on most lift heights.
Tire Sizing for Lifted F-150s
33-inch tires (285/70R17): The ideal match for a leveling kit or 2-inch lift. 33s give your F-150 a noticeably more aggressive look without requiring re-gearing on most configurations. 35-inch tires (315/70R17 or 35×12.50R17): The most popular size for 3.5 to 4-inch lifts. This is where your F-150 starts looking like a serious build. At 35 inches, you’ll want to re-gear to 4.88 for optimal drivability. 37-inch tires (37×12.50R17): For 6-inch lifts and full show builds. 37s demand 5.13 gears, upgraded upper control arms, and potentially some inner fender trimming depending on your wheel offset. The reward is a truck that commands attention and has legitimate rock-crawling capability. Expect to invest in supporting modifications to run 37s properly.
